Sightseeing in the Haute Provence

Over 25 kilometres long and plunging 1,000 metres in places, the Gorge du Verdon is the most impressive gorge of southern France. This European equivalent of the Grand Canyon offers spectacular views and a range of adventure tours and activities. The Haute Provence also boasts atmospheric old villages and historical towns, nestled in a beautiful landscape with purple lavender fields, olive trees and other Mediterranean greenery.

The enormous rock dominated by a church overlooking the village of Castellane is definitely worth admiring when you are shopping at the weekly market.

Take the old train from St. André les Alpes to the famous beach resort Nice and enjoy the mountain views along the way. Guaranteed fun for the whole family.

Easy canoeing or wild water rafting – the Gorges du Verdon has it all.

From the high mountains in the north to the hills in the south, the Haute Provence has a wide variety of nature reserves for walking and hiking.

Visit the old fortress towns and get to know the local history, traditions and crafts of the Haute Provence.
