RCN Belledonne is located on the edge of a conservation area, the Parc Nationale des Écrins. This part of the French Alps is mostly famous for the hills and mountains of the Tour de France, and guests have a view of the Alpe d'Huez from the park. Cycling fanatics can imagine that they are competitors but Isère also offers plenty of opportunities for winter sports.

The lake, Lac Lauvitel, can be found at an altitude of 1530 metres and it is the biggest mountain lake in the Parc Nationale des Écrins. The park is also home to a marmot colony.
