The wide and open landscape of Friesland is unique to the Netherlands. Large parts of the province have retained their original character – a green landscape transected by canals, waterways and lakes. Perfect for sailing, cycling or exploring by car. On the way you will be enchanted by the lovely villages, town and cities, often with historical sites of interest. In addition to the Frisian lakes, the Wadden coast is also well worth visiting, just as the Gaasterland forests. We can also recommend indoor playground Ballorig in Heerenveen.

Sneek
Sneek, probably Friesland’s loveliest city, is virtually a stone’s throw from the park. Sneek is famous for its watergate, bustling nightlife and interesting museums. An enjoyable day out with the children? Then the Nationaal Modelspoor Museum (National Model Railway Museum) in Sneek is a must do.

Sporty adventures
Sporty adventures with a Frisian touch? What about hiking on the mud flats (Wadloopcentrum Fryslân) or ‘fierljeppen’ (pole leaping) as an alternative activity to sailing?

Friesland’s cultural-historical heritage
In old cities such as Bolsward and Workum many prime examples of Friesland’s cultural-historical heritage can be seen.
