On the other side of the lake is the Maria Laach Abbey. This place of pilgrimage is one of the most beautiful abbeys of Germany and attracts more than a million visitors a year. It is surrounded by spectacular countryside and is one of the most important examples of the Romanesque architecture of the Staufen period. The abbey shouldn’t be missed.
