Mixed Feeling

We stayed at Le Bastide for 2 weeks in August, joining two other couples. While the facilities (pool, toilets, showers) are very good in themselves, they are not quite adequate for the number of people staying on the site. The pool was always crowded in the afternoons, with no sun beds available, and there was often a queue for toilets and showers. There was also a lot of children and young people playing quite boisterously in the main shower block, which could be quite annoying at times. The camping pitches were ok in size but seemed very cramped altogether and they all had a lot of shade so it was not possible to sunbathe on them. This wasn’t quite represented accurately in the website pictures. One issue outside the camp’s control is the amount of Boxwood Moths that inhabit the site. There are thousands and, while they don’t bite, they are a nuisance while trying to cook or just relax. I would advise people to take a torch as a lot of the lighting on the paths didn’t work and, given the area has a lot of changeable weather, there are often puddles of water on the paths. Overall the staff on site are very pleasant but we had a problem with the water drain overflowing on our pitch, which we reported but was not dealt with properly, resulting in our tent being flooded during a long storm. While we were eventually allowed to move pitches, there was no help forthcoming to do so. Also a number of the staff camp on site in random spots. We had a group of 4 staff next to us who, while pleasant enough, were quite noisy late at night and didn’t take as much pride in their environment as guests do.
