One of the most important monuments in the French town of Saint-Tropez is the Citadel. The fort stands above the town and was built to defend it and its inhabitants 1590 –1607. Visit the Citadel St. Tropez, the Musée de la Marine and the Musée de la Gendarmerie. The highest terrace offers a breath-taking panoramic view across the entire gulf and the Massif des Maures. Prestigious music festivals are held here in the summer. A boat trip from Sainte-Maxime to the fashionable Saint-Tropez, avoiding the approach to the town, is highly recommended.
